A guy from operations just texted me, asking me what I'm doing. He's always afraid of being fired or laid off and will do anything to keep his job. He said bikini and a few others had a meeting and didn't tell him to join, so he was talking to some people about it, like it's a bad sign, he might be let go. If he loses his job he has nowhere else to go because he's making good money and no other station will pay him so much. And like everyone else, he doesn't want to go to a smaller market because they pay like minimum wage and it's too isolated.
I don't know why he texted me because he now has a wife and a couple of kids, but knowing how he used to be, maybe he feels trapped. I met him a while ago at a smaller station where he was the morning host and the program director. He used to go out and drink and was really good looking, so people had a crush on him, and he had no problem finding someone to spend the night with.
Then he got the better job, more money, more responsibility, and after his fiancee cheated on him with the sports guy, he totally changed. He got really serious and started to worry a lot, and he became really skinny and barely ate, and was so uptight he never went out anymore, just worked and was at the station all the time.
He didn't really talk much until he met his wife when she started at the station. She did something in sales, like an assistant or promotions, and was the opposite of him, like no experience, small town, never drank, always took the Metra straight home after work, never hung out in the city because she thought it was too dangerous and weird. Maybe he wanted to have someone totally different than his fiancee because she was really fun and went out a lot and was from the city, knew a lot of people, traveled a lot, grew up with a lot of money and went to private schools. Maybe after she cheated he wanted boring, because that's what his wife is. Boring and gossipy and clueless. Maybe that's why he texted me.
